Â鶹´«Ã½ Curatorial Prize exhibition curated by Zuhra Amini featuring artists who work with fraught histories.Â
Fraction, Refraction is a two-person exhibition featuring Clare Hu and Basharat Ali Syed, who utilise references to historical events that are often only materially available in parts and pieces to offer entry points into forgotten, overlooked, or purposefully obscured histories at the slightest of angles.
The exhibition takes its cue from the process of refraction, whereby a wave bends after it passes through two media of different densities due to the change in the wave’s direction and speed. The title suggests that the process of transformation that happens when encountering a part from a whole alters the perspective of the history in question. In doing so, memory and how materials hold onto memories condition the past.
An opening reception will be held Wednesday, October 28, from 5-7 P.M.
