Investment Literacy is the knowledge and understanding of financial markets, asset classes, and investment vehicles. This course will empower you to properly evaluate risks and returns, understand asset allocation and diversification, and make informed decisions to invest your money wisely and achieve your financial goals. We will explore the relationship between the economy, the stock market, and the role of the Federal Reserve in determining sound interest rate policy. Each class, we will be discussing the stock market in real time and Warren Buffett\u2019s approach to investing in seeking out undervalued securities for long-term wealth creation.<\/p>\n

This section seeks to explore how AI and digital art technology can co-exist with authentic creativity. Is AI and digital art technology a risk or is it a resource? How far will advances in AI go? Is there still a place for traditional art techniques or will AI change the face of human creativity forever? Through<\/p>\n

contemporary and classical art examples students will examine how art has evolved over time and
\nhow creativity looks today in a world of AI and digital art technology versus how it was created and perceived in the past.<\/p>\n

For a very long time, we could only dream of fully recreating our memories. Nostalgia\u2014our longing for the past\u2014has prompted us to channel the look, feel, and spirit of the \u201cbetter days\u201d for ages. Today, where these better days feel more distant than before, we\u2019ve taken the initiative to bring those days back as living ghosts that feel closer to us than ever. To live in the past, it only takes the click of a few buttons. This course will examine the evolving nature of memory and longing in 21st century life \u2014 namely how new media and advanced technologies have spurred the development of new practices and productions of memory in art, culture, and politics. We will attempt to understand the massive prevalence of nostalgia in today\u2019s world through examining these newfound practices and technologies, thinking about our own experiences with memory and longing, and how new nostalgia helps us reason with the present while challenging the future ahead.<\/p>\n

This section of FYS will explore gender rights discourses from a transnational perspective. During the semester, we will examine social and political movements as well as legal and policy-making processes to understand the forces that shape gender, sexuality and rights advocacy. We will focus on the intersection of gender with race, class, sexuality, ability, and culture. Students will be introduced to key concepts that have been used to unpack the social construction of gender, and to understand the discourses that naturalize our understanding of gender.<\/p>\n

Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, you’ll develop skills that can help you succeed in college, the workplace, and any field you choose.<\/p>\n

What went down before the curtain went up? This course takes you behind the scenes to explore the business and leadership decisions that bring live performances from a concept to the stage. Students will dive into key areas such as talent acquisition, budgeting, marketing, production planning, and more. Through real-world examples such as concerts, theatrical productions, and even less conventional live events, this course will emphasize transferable skills like project management, leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that students can take with them on their own career journey.<\/p>\n

Why does red mean “stop” and green mean “go?” This section of FYS will explore concepts of Semiotics, or the study of signs. We use them to communicate ideas without using words. Just as emojis can show feelings in messages, signs and symbols help us understand the world around us. Emphasis will be placed on Visual Communication\u2013 including contemporary art, design, film, music, photography, fashion, and architecture. Students will explore the subject matter through writing, group activities, discussions, presentations, and creative projects.<\/p>\n
